Peterborough star reacts to Middlesbrough and Derby transfer links

Peterborough could be at risk of losing two of their star names to the Championship in the upcoming transfer window, with Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison linked with moves away.

Middlesbrough and Derby are the two clubs leading the charge for the Peterborough pair, who could cost up to £10 million each, according to reports.

Both striker Toney and attacking midfielder Maddison have started the season in impressive form, with the former scoring eight goals across eight games, and registering one assist. Maddison has scored five in the same number of games and laid on six assists for his teammates.

Along with Derby and Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Bristol City are also interested, and Toney has responded to the rumours linking him with a move.

“Speculation is speculation, that is all it is, I don’t let it affect me,” Toney stated in an interview with The Peterborough Telegraph this week.

“You can see that’s been the case because I was in good form around that point in August and ever since.

“My job is score as many goals as I can and help the team and that is my sole focus.”

Peterborough Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has also had his say, ultimately dismissing the news linking the Championship quartet to his star players. The owner took to his Twitter account to give his opinion.

In response to a Derby County fan page’s tweet regarding the interest of the two players, MacAnthony replied ‘Best to ignore all transfer talk pal. It’s bloody September Cheers [sic]’.
