Ipswich Town are in pole position to land Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at Prenton Park in the summer and could be on his way to Portman Road, according to HITC Sport.
Norwood, who has scored 27 goals in all competitions in this campaign, was named League Two Player of the Season at the EFL Awards last night.
He has built on the 24 goals he fired last season to help get Micky Mellon’s side promoted from the National League.
Ipswich are seemingly already preparing for life in League One and Norwood could be ideal to lead the line for them.
Norwood played for the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace as a youngster before a spell at non-league side Eastbourne Town. He was then snapped up by Exeter City in 2009.
He made his debut for the Grecians in a third tier fixture away to Leeds United but made only three further appearances. Instead, the Eastbourne-born striker had loan stints at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough before he was let go by Exeter in 2011.
Forest Green signed Norwood on a permanent deal in June 2011 and he turned out to be a huge signing for them. He scored 48 goals in 149 matches for Rovers in the National League prior to his switch to Tranmere three years ago.
It is set to be an interesting summer at Portman Road with plenty of comings and goings anticipated. The potential arrival of Norwood on a free transfer would be a shrewd signing by Paul Lambert.
