Will Aimson scores — Will Aimson scored a second late goal for Exeter City in his last three appearances

Ten-man Exeter continued their excellent form with a late 2-1 victory at Northampton.

The Grecians played the whole second half a man down but extended their unbeaten run to nine games thanks to Will Aimson's 83rd minute winner.

The visitors opened the scoring at Sixfields when Harris collected Dion Rankine's pass on 20 minutes and fired in off the post.

Jake Richards went close to adding to City's lead before an almighty goalmouth scramble at the other end saw Louis Appere, Mitch Pinnock and Marc Leonard all have efforts either blocked or saved.

Exeter lost a man in first-half stoppage-time with Ryan Woods sent off for violent conduct after clashing with home captain Jon Guthrie.

Northampton inevitably dominated possession in the second half but it took until the 74th minute for the equaliser to arrive when Exeter failed to deal with a long throw and Guthrie stabbed in the loose ball.

But despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors snatched victory thanks to Aimson, who ghosted in at the back post to convert Zak Jules' cross seven minutes from time.

I admit it, I have been very wrong this season being so critical of the manager and players.i hope we can retain our main squad and kick on next year. Party time at SJP next week and congratulations to every member of exeter fc

I must admit I have been very harsh and critical about Caldwell and his players this season. However, a nine game unbeaten run is testament to the effort put in by everyone at SJP, manager, players, and others. Well done City and please don't let Oxford spoil the party next Saturday!!!

Exeter have finished the season very strongly. If they can keep hold of the core of the squad they could be a serious threat in the next campaign.

There's still a possibility, albeit slight, that Argyle might be joining us next season. However, whether they do or don't there is still "Only one team in Devon" !!!

If ever there was an example of the good sense of giving a manager time to turn things round, Exeter and Caldwell is it. A couple of good signings and they could be even pushing for promotion next season.

Simply outstanding from everyone except Woods, finally won at Northampton for the first time in about 700 years. Jake Richards looking like the next million pound academy product already. Great to see we're fully committed in every single game, get me to next season already! UTC

I've only been there four times but of the previous three visits two were depressing thrashings (including the game with the bizarre incident where Wheeler booted the ball into the away end & broke his girlfriend's wrist) and the other was the draw in the promotion season. To see us not only win but to do so with 10 men for 50-odd minutes is unreal.

Another managerial situation where he could have gone after a mid season slump. Really pleased they are closing the season with some good results.

It just goes to prove that ECFC is unique in more ways than one. Yes, you're right, any other club would definitely have sacked their manager during or after that terrible mid season slump. As I have already said ECFC is not any other club, "We're ECFC and we'll do what we like"!!!

A fabulous April so far. If we can at least draw with or better still beat Oxford Caldwell will deservedly be in for the Manager of the Month award.

The results earlier on the season were sending me prematurely grey...
