Minella Indo each-way

MINELLA INDO may have had a blessing in disguise with the Cross Country Chase being abandoned, and the 2021 Gold Cup gets to come into what should be a gruelling assignment a fresh horse - something that can definitely suit him at his age. Soft ground and a proper test of stamina pose no fears.

The ground will be hard work, but I doubt it will be stamina that he is found wanting for. Yes he is getting on in years at the age of 11, but is relatively lightly-raced for a horse of his age. The Henry De Bromhead team have been in cracking form in recent times, and I can see this veteran running a big race as an each-way player.

Capodanno each way

CAPODANNO has a lot of weight, but this unexposed 8-year-old has a touch of class, and can play a major role here. He ultimately disappointed when pulling-up in this year, but jumped and travelled well for a long way before tiring late on. My initial reaction to that performance was that he was a non-stayer and that marathon trips would be off the radar moving forwards.

However, Willie Mullins was quick to dispel that notion, instead blaming the troubled preparation the then 7-year-old had had in the run up to the race, managing to get just one spin into him before a crack at the big one. It has been much smoother this time around, winning the Cotswold Chase, and producing a fast finishing fourth over an inadequate trip in last month's Ryanair.

For all that, he comes into this year's renewal just 1lb higher than 12 months ago, and couldn't be in better form. It is possible he might not stay, but he is an individual with plenty of ability and it wouldn't shock me if he finished in the frame at big odds.

Latenightpass each-way

One horse who won't mind Soft ground is the Tm Ellis trained trained LATENIGHTPASS, the Champion Point-to-point handler now had his full licence the 11-year-old is now officially back in his care after a spell with Dan Skelton.

He ploughed through the mud to win the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham's December meeting, where he jumped and travelled superbly - looking as though he had just jumped in two from home at the end of that extended 3m5f contest. Jumping is clearly this veteran's forte, and he has been given a spin over Hurdles subsequently, under the guidance of Dan Skelton to have him tuned to the minute for this.

He has plenty of form over the National fences, and off 149 I don't think he is impossibly treated. The combination of Aintree and Soft ground can bring out the best in him and I think he is a lively outsider here.

Galia des Liteaux each way

GALIA DES LITEAUX is a smart Mare who ran a good race when runner-up in the Classic Chase. The ground will be to her liking, and with her Mares' allowance she could be a major player here for the Dan Skelton team.

She has been freshened up since her last run at Exeter 62 days ago, and as a usually assured jumper, she can travel well for a long way into this race. Harry Skelton takes the ride, and with only 10st 7lb on her back, this unexposed sort has shaped as though marathon trips should suit and she should have a lot more to offer.
